John Gleason came to us seeking a video to promote his world-class knife sharpener. To do so we needed to tell his story and his brand to ensure his credibility and experience matches the quality of his products and this sharpener. It became a series of videos that compliment each other. The approach was simple. John is an incredibly passionate and creative artisan who cared about the details of every single measurement, cut, and application. Everything he touched was planned, and purposeful. So, the approach to the cinematography was to match the same. Match and show his organized chaos of a workflow; an elegant and beautiful approach to something gritty and dark. The cinematography approach showcased the duality between light and shadow, signifying the birth of an idea out of darkness, coming into the light. The black and white approach not only showcased volume in his products and builds, but the transparency of his passion and hard work that goes into it.
